One Day Fire Investigation Training
The One Day Fire Investigation Training Course is aimed at investigators who require an introduction to fire investigation. It combines elementary theory and practical to enable the delegate to understand the fundamentals of fire investigation and how they can apply this to a basic fire scene. This course will not enable any of those attending to examine any fires as sole investigators but it is expected that they will be able to use their new knowledge and skills to take an active role in any fire investigation.
The topics covered by this one day fire investigation training course include:
- Basic fire science
- Smouldering/flaming fires
- Safety at scenes
- Photography at fire scenes
- Plan drawing; note taking
- Sampling & packaging
- Evidential value of laboratory submissions
- Burning patterns
The practical element of this course involves approximately two hours of application of the knowledge learned in the theory part of the course. Small areas replicating very simple fire scenes are examined and photographed. The resulting notes, plan, photographs and any ‘exhibits’ taken are reviewed with each delegate.
This course has been incorporated into the Kent Police College, Crime Scene Investigators Initial Training Course.
