Testimonials

Iain Peck was instructed by the Defence in a trial in which my client was charged with Arson, Being Reckless as to Endangering Life. Throughout our preparations for trial, Mr Peck responded swiftly and concisely to additional questions.  When required to provide a joint report with the Crown’s expert, he did so well in advance of the Court deadline.  At trial, Mr Peck gave evidence in a clear and engaging manner, and did not waiver in his findings.  The Defendant was ultimately acquitted, no doubt thanks in large part to the evidence presented by Mr Peck.

Mr. Peck’s report caused the Crown to fundamentally reassess their case.

Mr Peck was instructed very late in these proceedings and was able to comply ahead of what was a very tight time schedule. I have no hesitations in recommending Prometheus to fellow practitioners and I highly commend the excellent work that they do.

“Dear Mr Peck,

Rather than wait for my instructing solicitors to thank you I wanted to let you know that the Crown have offered no evidence in this case. They and I owe you a debt of gratitude. I have already recommended you to my professional colleagues and I will continue to do so.”

“I would like to thank Iain and Emma for the support they have provided reviewing evidence relating to the fatal fire at Harlow, which tragically claimed the lives of six members of the Shakoor family. Throughout several months of work they have been consistently professional and efficient and have brought both expertise and common sense to this most challenging of investigations. It is clear that Prometheus have a genuine passion for fire investigation and in sharing their knowledge for the greater good of future investigations. They have been a pleasure to deal with.”

Detective Chief Inspector Op Shakespeare, Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate

“Thank you again for your input and assistance during your examination of the burnt out vehicle. I found it very informative and a good way to validate my own theory. It was very refreshing to meet a very down to earth individual like yourself who is not afraid to roll up her sleeves and get stuck in. Thanks again, I look forward to working with you again in the future.”

“This was an excellent course delivered by two scientists who obviously knew their subject inside out and who are quite rightly regarded as the best in the business by many. The course was well structured and interesting, culminating in an invaluable practical day. I now feel better equipped when attending arsons and it is a great advantage in knowing the Iain and Emma are at the end of a telephone should their assistance regarding anything appertaining to arsons be required. It was a privilege to have attended this course, from which I know I will benefit enormously.”

“I am writing to thank you for your outstanding contribution to Operation Linden. Your review of our available evidence, including other forensic report was extremely detailed but was carried out expeditiously to meet various dead-lines. Fortunately I had opportunity to watch and hear you give live evidence during the trial. The way in which you presented yourself and the evidence was first class.  It is often a risk that the evidence of an expert can become too involved and confusing for the jury, but the way in which you spoke clearly set out the most likely sequence of fire damage on the night in question. The use of real life comparisons and common sense examples was ‘spot-on’.

I have no doubt that your meticulous attention to detail and personal delivery made a real difference to the jury’s understanding of the evidence and the positive outcome to this sad case. I would have no hesitation in recommending you to other Senior Investigating Officers in similar circumstances.

“I had the opportunity to work at length with Iain on a recent case. This was a serious allegation involving arson, being reckless as to whether life was endangered. I have to say that Iain’s reports were excellent. They were delivered promptly and were extremely thorough and lengthy. They covered all the relevant issues in detail. It was notable that, when the addendum was prepared, the Crown’s expert essentially agreed with all of Iain’s points, meaning that the addendum effectively confirmed what Iain had said in his original report. The trial started at Lewes Crown Court, but was abandoned by the CPS on the second day and I feel this was largely down to the excellent work that Iain had done in terms of disproving a lot of the assertions the Crown were trying to make. It would be fair to say that all parties involved in the case, and in particular the Defence barrister, my colleague in court and the client, were extremely impressed with Iain’s professionalism and the quality of his work throughout these proceedings. I would not hesitate to recommend Iain as an expert in any arson related case”

“It was evident from my first meeting with Ms Wilson that her ability to apply her considerable skills to the very complicated facts of the case was going to prove invaluable. Her knowledge of the subject matter and her willingness to conduct any necessary further investigations was most impressive. I would not hesitate to recommend Ms Wilson to other investigation teams who were dealing with arson cases; she would doubtless prove invaluable.”

“Iain clearly has a solid scientific foundation and knowledge base. In the 3 trials I have conducted he has justified his opinions by reference to the hard evidence and not been undermined in any way by cross examination. Iain’s steadfastness in his views is due, I believe, in his meticulous preparation outside of the witness box and before trial to explore the evidence and consider possible alternative arguments. It means his opinion, whatever it is, may be relied upon by the instructing party.”

“The competence of Mr Peck was acknowledged by the conviction at Crown Court for murder. Thoroughly professional, thoughtful and committed to his findings and conclusion. I genuinely look forward to the next time Iain comes to one of my scenes.”

“Iain and Emma attended the scene of a large scale public disorder. The cordoned area extended approximately 3/4 of a mile of a busy road, along the length of which were several large buildings with extensive fire damage. Iain and Emma both have excellent knowledge of their subject matter. As well as giving essential interpretation on causation they also provided excellent assessment with regards to whether there was an endangerment to life at a number of premises. Their work was carried out in a detailed, efficient manner with further laboratory examinations carried out in a timely fashion. Iain and Emma worked for a number of days at several scenes in order to complete the work requested of them. The work was of the highest standard and I would have no hesitation in asking them to carry out any aspect of fire investigation in the future.”
